Errol Spence Jr Vs. Terence Crawford Might Be Secured For November

The undisputed welterweight battle between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford doesn’t seem to be “stuck” anymore.

Boxing insider Dan Rafael tweeted Monday night that the anticipated unification will be “penciled in” for either November 12 or 19. If finalized, the venue will likely be in Las Vegas.

Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) is coming off of a dominant win over Yordenis Ugas in April, which he won by 10th round TKO. With the victory, Spence also captured the WBA Super world welterweight title.

Crawford has been calling out for a fight against Spence since his TKO victory against Shawn Porter in November 2021.

“I’m free to do whatever I want,” the 34-year-old said.

“There’s nothing standing in the way from us fighting. There’s no promotion company that’s blocking it, there’s no wrong side of the street, there’s no nothing. Let’s see who the best welterweight in the world is.”

In April, after Spence’s fight, he answered Crawford’s longtime callouts, leaving fans in suspense for months.

Since then, there’s been a few comments from both sides.

Spence was in attendance for Gervonta Davis’ win over Rolando Romero at the Barclays Center in May. There, Spence told FIGHT SPORTS that Crawford is the only fight he wants right now, but if it doesn’t happen, it’s not his fault.

Last week, Crawford said in an interview with Fight Hub that they’re working on getting the deal done. This comment followed up Showtime Executive Stephen Espinoza’s claim that the negotiations were “a little bit stuck.” The original targeted date was in October.

But now, it seems that things have gotten moving again.

Also, according to Rafael’s tweet, PBC is looking for undercard possibilities. WBA regular 147-pound champion Eimantas Stanionis is likely to appear and possibly Jaron “Boots” Ennis.

Elsewhere in the welterweight division, Keith Thurman thinks that he might be backup if the unification fight falls through.

“Come on; they’re [Spence & Terence Crawford] having problems right now. I don’t have a fight right now. Come on; you don’t think I’m the fall guy? Because I think I’m the fall guy,” Thurman told Fight Hub TV.

“… I don’t like being the bench boy. I don’t like being the fall guy, but I’ve been waiting, they’ve been waiting, people have been waiting, everybody is waiting. Why am I waiting, though? Give me a little [hint]. I just want to know.”
