Famous Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka had to withdraw from the Canadian Open Tennis Tournament. Canada did not issue a visa to Azarenka due to the sanctions imposed as part of the occupation of Ukraine.
The reflections of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continue in the world of sports.
Belarusian tennis star Viktoria Azarenka will not be able to participate in the Canadian Open tennis tournament due to the country’s support for the occupation.
Azarenka’s visa application to participate in the tournament was rejected by Canadian authorities.
Leading tennis organizations banned Russian and Belarusian teams from tournaments after the invasion of Ukraine.
Azarenka was also unable to attend Wimbeldon in June for the same reason.
The Belarusian racquet, who has won two grand slam titles in his career, said in a statement on his social media account that he was sorry for the decision.
Azarenka said in August she will be participating in the Cincinati Open in the United States.
